Professional Poker Player – Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu“Kid Poker,” otherwise known as Daniel Negreanu, has been playing poker since the tender age of 15 and learned how to play in his home town of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. While he was in high school, he learned how to play both poker and pool and became very efficient in both, often hustling others for money. To hone his poker skills he spent much of his time in illegal games around home as well as Casino County, the local casino. At the age of 21, Negreanu packed up his bags and headed to Las Vegas. Shortly after unpacking his bags, he had to pack them up again and move back to Toronto as he went broke in Vegas.

Negreanu’s second attempt proved to be more successful and in 1997, he won his first pair of tournaments. In 1998, he won the Pot Limit Omaha event for a prize of $169,460 and a WSOP bracelet. At the time, he was the youngest player to ever win a bracelet. He has been very successful on the tournament trail as he continued to win titles in both WPT and WSOP events. Daniel Negreanu has won 4 bracelets, 2 WPT titles and has over 51 money finishes combined. He has been named WSOP and WPT player of the year for his consistent success’. Daniel Negreanu poker carrer is an impressive one to say the least. He is considered to be one of the best professional poker players of all time in tournaments and cash games.

When Daniel is not winning tournaments, he plays the high stakes cash games at “Bobby’s Room” in Las Vegas. These games consist of all the big name players such as Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen, and Jennifer Harman. The stakes generally start out at as low as $2,000/$4,000 and can be as high as $4,000/$8,000 and the game of choice is usually an 8 game mix. You can also find him on PokerStars, whom he signed on with in 2007, under the name KidPoker.

These experiences have led Negreanu to contributing in many newspaper and magazine articles all over the world including Card Player Magazine. He was also give a chapter of his own in Doyle Brunson’s Super System 2, a poker strategy book, and expanded on his own personal strategy called “small ball.” He has also explained his small ball strategy in his books as well. Daniel has written “More Hold Em Wisdom for All Players” and “Power Hold Em Strategy.”

Many of his other projects also include his Full Contact Poker website where he posts about once a week on anything from poker to his personal life. FCP has a forum where members can discuss poker and get the chance to chat with the poker pro. His PokerVT training site is in full swing as well. This is absolutely state of the art as it is almost like being trained one on one with Negreanu himself. You can watch him and his band of pros as they play poker and comment on what they are thinking as they play through each hand.

Aside from poker, Daniel Negreanu is an aspiring golfer who tends to play everyday. Not one to leave gambling out of the mix, he will usually make it interesting by adding bets to each hole or for the whole game in general. He has a small practice area in the back of his home as well. Daniel is an avid hockey fan and you can see him quite frequently sporting hockey jerseys at different events

Daniel Negreanu has accomplished more than a fraction of what aspiring poker players wish to achieve. He has earned more than $10 million in WSOP tournament winnings, earning him 2nd place in all time earnings behind Jamie Gold. He also leads the WPT in lifetime earnings as well. He is well liked by all and has a great sense of humor while playing.  His game continues to evolve every day as he tries to get better and you can only expect him to win more bracelets in the future.
