Where you play poker is going to play a large role in how successful you are. Poker players tend to disregard their playing environment, but the reality is that it can be incredibly important. Take a look at the working space of any other professionals in the world. Would a doctor examine their patients in a train station? Would a basketball game be played on a football field? Of course not, these environments would not be suited for the activity at hand. Poker is no different, whether you are playing a live game or on the internet.

The environment for live poker players is often times going to be difficult to moderate, but online poker players are able to create their own playing atmosphere. Set ups for online poker players have really risen in popularity over the past few years, and with good reason. A solid set up will help any poker player realize greater profits than would otherwise be possible.

The interesting dynamic of a poker player’s playing environment is that each player is going to prefer something different from the next. One player might prefer complete and total silence, but another player might do their best with the music blasting. When you cater to your own specific needs it will be easier to play your best.

There are only a certain amount of dynamics that you will actually be able to control, but these few areas are going to determine how comfortable you are as a player. Live players have very little they can adjust. The first thing a live player can do is find the poker room or location that they find most appealing. This can mean looking for a casino that is the most fun to play at, or the casino with the most tables. Beyond game selection the only other variables that a live poker player can adjust would be what they are doing when they are playing (music, no music) and how they handle any eating or drinking habits. Some players like to drink a little bit while they play (alcoholic drinks more often than not), but other players prefer to simply play and set the drinking aside. Determine what approach suits you best and apply it.

Online poker players are able to pick and choose everything from what type of chair they use to what clothes they want to wear (if any). The convenience of online poker is one of the reasons that it has become so popular. You are able to set up your own unique playing environment, totally different from what the guy up the street is working with. In a live setting you will not have this option. Your monitor of choice is going to be very important. Decide what size monitor will suit you best and how many you would like to play with. Some players like to use just one monitor at a time, but others have two or three. The background noise is another important area of consideration for online players. Do you play best when the TV is on or when there is complete silence? These are variables in your playing environment that can be altered. Identify whether you play your best while laying in a bed or sitting at a desk. These small aspects of your playing environment will ultimately decide how comfortable you are when playing, and the more comfortable you are, the better chance you have to win.
