Rush Poker on Full Tilt: The New Poker Boom

The developers at Full Tilt took poker and fed it crack cocaine. Rush Poker speeds up the game in ways you can’t imagine, unless you’ve played it. Here’s how it works.

All the poker rules remain the same. You don’t need to re-learn the basics in order to ‘get’ Rush Poker. The fundamental difference is in the structure of the game. Instead of sitting at a single table, you enter yourself into a player pool. The player pool consists of up to thousands of players. When you’re dealt a hand, you decide what to do with it; as soon as you remove yourself from a hand (i.e., fold) Rush Poker will seat you at a new table, with a new group of opponents, and immediately deal you new cards.

For example, you sit down at a Rush Poker table, and are randomly assigned a seat, with a random group of players. You’re placed in the small blind, and are dealt 82 offsuit. Hopefully, you fold. You’re immediately removed from the table, and randomly placed in a seat at a new one. You’re dealt AA, and stack a whole table full of new fish. All of this happens in the span of 20 seconds.

Goodbye waiting. Goodbye boredom. Hello Rush Poker!

Rush Poker: Rules to Note

Okay, it’s great that Rush Poker essentially lets you play a hand every second, if you want. But how exactly does it work? For example, if players are assigned to random tables against random players, how are the blinds decided?

Of the randomly selected players who join a table, the one who has gone the longest without posting the big blind will be forced to post. The small blind is always selected at random. This selection process ensures that over the long run, all players will post an equal amount of big blinds and small blinds.

Sure, you might be seated in the big blind 3 times in a row (although it’s highly unlikely); but then, you might not see it for another 30 hands. It evens out over time, and in the end works the same as a regular game of poker.

Possibly the coolest change Rush Poker makes to the game is the addition of the “quick fold” button. As soon as you’re dealt a hand (as long as you’re not in the big blind) you have the option to quick fold. This ditches your cards and immediately takes you to a new table. You don’t even have to wait until the action comes around to you. Rush Poker takes speed very seriously, and quick fold is the nitrous oxide under the hood.

What Rush Poker Means for the Game

Quite simply, Rush Poker is fast. This will affect the game in numerous ways:

• Patience as a skill declines in importance. You’ll no longer need to wait around for a great hand; you can just click fold until you get one.

Tilt control will become incredibly important, but for different reasons than in regular poker. Rush Poker makes it easier for you to spew lots of cash pretty fast, if you’re not careful.

• The importance of preflop hand selection becomes massively important.

• Postflop play is dramatically changed; getting reads on specific opponents becomes almost impossible, and you’ll need rely more on skill in general situations than pounding individual fish.

• Rush Poker will transform your opponent’s games. Playing as though you were at a regular table could lose you some cash. Knowing the general tendencies of players at Rush tables will be critical. If your new to the game you might want to read our Rush Poker tips article.

• Metagame takes a backseat to in-the-moment decision-making. You’ll need to get good at making tough choices pretty fast.

• While the importance of reads decreases, focusing on new kinds of tells can help you out. Specifically, stack sizes, user names, and positional betting tendencies. These factors can work together to inform your decisions at the Rush Poker tables. Check our article on reading opponents in Rush Poker for more information.
